This past week we passed an important milestone in our school construction project: the release of bid documents. This is an important step in a process that has been carefully developed over the past two years.
How We Got Here
This project began with the development of a detailed budget and conceptual plan. In May 2025, Fulda voters approved a referendum authorizing the project.
Following the referendum, the District undertook a facility planning and design process through the summer and fall of 2025. The community was invited to share its perspectives, and that input informed the scope and details of the final plan.
What the Project Includes
The bond funds renovations to the existing high school and adds new construction to combine elementary and high school students onto one site. The planned improvements at Fulda High School encompass a new storm shelter and gymnasium addition, classroom additions, a new fire sprinkler system, updated flooring and wall finishes, kitchen and restroom renovations, parking lot improvements, outdoor athletic area improvements, new HVAC systems, new Elementary School, Nurse and Counselor office areas and main entrances.
Bid Documents Released
The formal bid package was released to contractors last week. Sealed bids will be accepted through April 30, 2026, with a public opening scheduled that afternoon. Pre-bid walkthroughs of the facility have been scheduled for April 7th and 9th to ensure contractors have a thorough understanding of the project scope.
Bid Documents Emphasize Fiscal Responsibility
The voter-approved budget represents the District's commitment to fiscal responsibility - and the bid package has been structured accordingly. Our construction management team has incorporated options and alternates into the documents, a standard industry practice that gives contractors flexibility in how they approach elements such as site configuration and material selections. This ensures that competitive, responsive bids can be submitted within the budget our community authorized.
What's Next
Bids will be reviewed following the April 30 opening. The District's target is gymnasium completion by September 30, 2027, with the goal of having the completed facilities available to students for the 2027-28 school year.
